Laptop RAM Upgrade

1. Find the exact model number (bottom label). Not the marketing name; the number.
2. Look up maximum RAM and the module type (DDR2 vs DDR3 SODIMM, speed, voltage: DDR3L is 1.35 V and matters on Haswell-era laptops).
3. Count slots. Many laptops have one slot under a door and one under the keyboard.
4. Buy the module. Match speed to the existing one if keeping it; mixing works more often than forums claim.
5. Power off, remove the battery, ground yourself, insert at 30 degrees, press down until the clips catch.
6. Boot. Check the BIOS or the OS. If it does not POST, reseat.

32-bit Windows sees 3-3.5 GB regardless. See also Compaq Presario 1260 for a very old example.
