Socket 775 Motherboards

From Hardware-wiki

Intel LGA 775 (2004-2011) covers Pentium 4 through Core 2 Quad. Chipset determines which CPUs work:

  • 945/965: Core 2 Duo (65 nm) with a BIOS update; no 45 nm quads on most boards.
  • P35/G33: Core 2 Duo and Quad including 45 nm; the best value boards of the era.
  • P45: same plus PCIe 2.0 and better overclocking.
  • X38/X48: enthusiast.

FSB matters: 1333 MHz CPUs need a board rated for it. DDR2-800 is the sweet spot; DDR3 boards exist but were not worth it. Check the vendor's CPU support list before buying a used board; it is usually still online.
