Compaq Presario 1260
From Hardware-wiki
The Compaq Presario 1260 is a late-1998 consumer laptop. AMD K6-2 at 333 MHz, 32 MB RAM (upgradeable to 96 MB with a 64 MB SODIMM), 4 GB hard disk, 12.1" TFT at 800x600, 24x CD-ROM, Trident Cyber9525 video, ESS audio, 56k modem.
Upgrades
- RAM: one SODIMM slot under the keyboard, PC66 SDRAM, 64 MB max module.
- Disk: 2.5" IDE, 44-pin; anything up to 32 GB works without BIOS games; larger disks need an overlay.
- OS: Windows 98 SE is the sweet spot. Linux (Debian) runs; the Trident chip needs the trident driver, 16-bit colour only.
Known problems
- The DC jack cracks its solder joints. Reflow it; do not replace the board.
- The battery is dead. All of them, everywhere, by 2005.
