BIOS Flashing
From Hardware-wiki
Before you flash
- Read the release notes. If they do not fix your problem, do not flash.
- Note the current version (POST screen or the BIOS setup).
- Use a UPS or a charged laptop battery.
Methods
- Vendor tool from within the BIOS (EZ Flash, Q-Flash, M-Flash): safest. FAT-formatted USB stick, file in the root.
- DOS boot disk with the vendor flasher: the old way; still the most reliable on pre-2008 boards.
- Windows flashers: avoid.
If it goes wrong
Boards with dual BIOS recover themselves. Others: hot-flash from a working board with the same chip, or a CH341A programmer for a few dollars. Keep the old image.
